Stephen KWARTENG

MD OLEA GHANA

I graduated from the University of Cape Coast, Ghana with a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting and Business Management.

Introduce yourself in a few lines.

I graduated from the University of Cape Coast, Ghana with a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting and Business Management. I am a Chartered Accountant and a Fellow of ACCA UK, Associate of the Institute of Chartered Accountants, Ghana and Associate Risk Manager (ARM) certified by the Institutes, USA. I also hold a Diploma in Insurance awarded by the Malta International Training Centre in collaboration with the Ghana Insurance College. I am married and I have 2 girls and a boy.

How did you join OLEA?

I joined Marine & General Brokers now OLEA M&G in January 2006 as an Accountant but later found the passion of broking in the company and therefore combined accounting with broking when I was promoted to the position of General Manager in the year 2010. My Journey in OLEA started in the year 2017, I was at the verge of bowing out of then M&G after over 12 years of working in the firm. Prior to that, we were in discussion with Afrik Assur in Cote D’Ivoire about some possible merger. While at it, Afrik Assur got acquired by OLEA and our company was introduced to OLEA too. In the process of acquisition, I met Olivier Canuel, Group CEO, who convinced me not to leave the company by showing me the vision of OLEA. I was also invited to 2018 Kigali-Rwanda FANAF where I met Olivier Dubois, Chairman. We spoke a lot about OLEA and the Ghana project. I returned to Ghana convinced that we were on the right path, and pushed for the closure of acquisition with our shareholders. We completed the transaction in September 2018 and I was subsequently appointed the Managing Director immediately after the transaction. It’s been a great journey and I am excited about the success of the company and the group at large.

How do you involve your teams in the CSR approach of OLEA Ghana?

OLEA M&G believe in giving back to society. Every year we set budget aside to embark on CSR activities. We are permanent donors to the JEAD Foundation, an NGO dedicate at providing care for poor women in rural communities who have breast cancer. Our support has gone a long way to support many to have surgeries, and others to undergo other forms of treatment. We have also made donations to orphanages and sponsored a number of social impart activities. As a team, we believe in contributing to environmental sustainability. In the month June each year, we fully participate in Ghana Green day by planting trees.

How do you participate in the development of the OLEA Group ?

Our advantage as OLEA group is our diversity and the spread. I have very good contact with all OLEA DGs. We share ideas constantly, introduce businesses among ourselves and have fun whenever we meet. I constantly get in touch in providing support whenever I am needed. For example, I assisted in the acquisition and setting up OLEA Sierra Leone, and always make myself available for any group assignment. I believe strongly that a win for the group makes us stronger and better than to be inward looking.
