Esther KOUROUMA

Administrative and Financial Manager

Since June 2021, I have been the Administrative and Financial Manager at OLEA Burkina Faso.

Introduce yourself in few lines.

Passionate about numbers, I had an early ambition to work in the field of finance. I, therefore, obtained a professional Master's degree in accounting, control and auditing at the Institut Burkinabè des Arts et des Métiers (IBAM).

Since June 2021, I have been the Administrative and Financial Manager at OLEA Burkina Faso.

On a personal level, I love theater, fashion and sports. I particularly like tennis and soccer. I am a fan of Serena Williams and a big supporter of FC Barcelona.

How did you join OLEA ?

When OLEA Burkina Faso expressed the desire to recruit an Administrative and Financial Manager, I was looking for new challenges. I was seduced by their project. Indeed, OLEA offered me the possibility to join a sector that was new to me and though it was little known in Burkina Faso, it offered great prospects.

Also, it was an opportunity to integrate an international, multicultural and dynamic environment. I was especially amazed by the growth that the OLEA Group had experienced in such a short period of time and I am delighted to take part in this growth by offering my modest contribution.

What is your greatest professional accomplishment?

I don't see my professional accomplishment in one single achievement but as a whole. Joining the OLEA team is already a professional success for me. Like many young people, OLEA allowed me to demonstrate my skills and know-hows.

During my previous job with the humanitarian NGO ACRA, I was in charge of training more than 100 civil society organizations (CSOs) in several regions of Burkina Faso. The aim was to introduce them to the various EU accounting procedures so that they would be able to manage the funds allocated by donors and reassure them. It was a pride for me to manage so many people and to appreciate the impact that this could have on the development of my country.

I think that this experience, which requires rigor and determination with international actors, helped me to integrate into OLEA Burkina Faso smoothly and to face the daily challenges.

What advice would you give to women to succeed in their professional life?

“It is through work that women have largely crossed the distance that separated them from the male; work is the only thing that can guarantee her real freedom". This statement by Simone de Beauvoir, which I appreciate, translates the importance of work for women in society. It is a heartfelt cry to all women, in order to challenge them to work hard and thus free themselves from stereotypes that persist in our societies. I invite them to be brave, rigorous, self-sacrificing and determined in everything they do, and to get rid of all those with mindsets that could hold them back in their professional ambitions. They must therefore be constantly in search of excellence, because they have a fundamental role to play in society. They should also not expect to benefit from any form of favoritism because of their status as women, but should work "hard" to succeed in their projects.
